Although the water supplied to customers properties is safe, it is important to keep taps used for drinking water clean, as bacteria can be present in the kitchen environment and grow on the outside and in the spout of the tap. It is important that food does not come into contact with the end of the tap due to the risk from contamination.

Drinking water taps should be cleaned regularly with a mild disinfectant and then run for several minutes to rinse any residual disinfectant off.

If your tap contains a plastic insert then when cleaning see if you can remove this and clean behind it, if it can not be removed try using a wire brush to clean behind it.
